The following is a list of metals which can currently be found in the world of Arad via Mining.

Naturally Occurring Ores

Orichalcum

Originally discovered in Grum under the nickname, “Magic Bronze” or “Mystic bronze”. This material has long been sought after by skilled machinists for its ability to transfer static shock energy from one point to another. It was the prime element used in the creation of a smokeless lamp that didn’t need oil nor gas to maintain its light and the material was prized among many tinkerers of its day. It should be noted that it’s nickname can be something of an expletive as they do not consider the material magic nor mystic, just yet to be fully understood. It was later discovered that the same material was useful to channelers as it was less inhibiting to them if worn as armor.

Bloodsand

A rare metallic sandstone found in the deserts of Nuum, this stone can be smelted to create Bloodglass. Bloodglass is valued for the dangerous weapons it can create, it is however not as durable as other alloys.

Typically a red-brown sandstone, small flecks of crimson are typically easily visible within the raw material. Aside from its hue, its name is derived from its extensive use in the creation of weapons of war. A third and perhaps more obscure reference may come from the Nuum who describe the sandstone tearing through the clothing and flesh of doomed travelers, who lost in the desert, begin to crawl over the sharp shards within the sandstone as they wither in the desert heat.

Once smelted into metal, bloodglass appears a deep glossy crimson in color, often times with pockets of black where sand or dirt was purged by the heat.

Cobalt

A metal common to the Lapis nation known for its silver-blue tinge. Not commonly found near Shadgard, this metal is typically imported.

Cobalt is a natural metal, found via mining and found most commonly in the Nation of Lapis. It is valued for its beautiful blue-silver sheen, and for being exceptionally strong as armor and weapons. The alloy is not ferrous like Iron or Steel, however.

Copper

A common metal, found in high abundance within the mines of Shadgard and the surrounding areas. Copper is a sturdy metal and works well to be crafted into weapons, armor and tools.

Electrum

A precious metal, rarely found in mines in the wild. Electrum is used primarily as a decorative metal on hilts, hafts or in jewelry. Only very skilled miners are able to recognize and extract veins of electrum, though it can also be smelted from equal portions of silver and gold. Smelted electrum can also be purified further by someone with the right knowledge.

Iron

A common metal with a high value to those who oppose the Nether. Iron is known for its natural warding properties which make it painful and even impossible for Nether Tainted to handle.

Gold

A precious metal, rarely found in mines in the wild. Gold is used primarily used in trading and as a decorative metal on hilts, hafts or in jewelry. Smelted gold can also be purified further by someone with the right knowledge.

Lead

A soft metal used primarily as flintlock shot and counter weighting weapons. Lead is too soft to be viable as a weapon blade or hilt due to the stress placed on such items in combat.

Obsidian

A natural mineral found in arid regions, obsidian cannot be forged. It is sharp and known for its deadly edge, yet can be damaged easily.

Silver

A precious metal, rarely found in mines in the wild. Silver is primarily used as a decorative metal on hilts, hafts or in jewelry. Smelted silver can also be purified further by someone with the right knowledge.

Tin

A common metal, tin is used primarily in alloys such as pewter and bronze, though can also be used in hilts and hafts.

Zinc

A silvery metal found naturally throughout the western realms. Zinc is commonly used in forming brass though is sometimes used to decorate hilts or in jewelry due to its shiny surface.

Alloys

These alloys cannot be found naturally (with the exception of electrum), but can be created via smelting. Common formulas for some alloys can be found in game, typically posted in the workyard. Others may need to be discovered, or learned elsewhere.

Steel

Steel is an alloy of iron and carbon, carbon most often being provided by coal. It is stronger and more durable than iron, and somewhat ferrous, adversely affecting nethrim to a small degree.

Riversteel

Riversteel has properties of steel but at higher durability and strength. It is created through a trade secret crafting technique only available to certain master Artisans in the Western Coalition. Riversteel items can be identified by a unique pattern of delicate ripples on the surface of the metal.

Due to the unique method of creating riversteel, it is strongly advised to avoid running riversteel through a furnace.

While it is a ferrous metal, its adverse effects against nethrim appears to be almost negligible, being less than standard steel.

Sunsteel

A rare Viali alloy. It is more dangerous than iron to nethrim, yet as strong as steel. When forged it appears as a light, silvery gray hue, in some cases being polished to a near white sheen.

Sunsteel was developed due to the increasing rarity of Celestium finds in Ivial, to assist in stretching its use to the officers in its expansive armies. Iron being weaker than forged steel, yet more effective against Netherim, the Viali also sought to find a way to balance the two. The result was Sunsteel, an alloy which affects the nethrim as strongly as iron, and yet maintains is strength and integrity as well as steel.

This material is typically reserved for higher ranking officers within the Viali forces of Templar.

Rare Metals

These metals cannot (and never will) be found via mining.
