The Hyra are a primitive people who dwell in Stone Canyon northeast of Shadgard. Little is known about them, as they are extremely reclusive and territorial, and despise outsiders. On top of this, they speak their own language, and seem to avoid speaking in the presence of outsiders, possibly in order to prevent others from learning their speech.
Appearance
The Hyra are easily identified by their pale white complexion, often tinged slightly blue as if affected by extremely cold temperatures. Their hair is a deep jet black, their eyes radiant blue.
Hyra garb is primitive, primarily making use of bone and animal hides. They are also known to wear primitive jewelry made of turquoise and bloodstone.
Society and Culture
Little is known of Hyra society and culture, save that they are extremely reclusive and hostile to outsiders. They make use of primitive tools and weapons, but are exceptionally dangerous and skilled in combat, indicating a strong hunter/warrior tradition. They are also capable of mining, and there are reports that the Hyra employ forced labor in their known mines, which often incites outrage in foreigners.
Rumors abound that the Hyra have a strong reverence or worship for the Red Lake deep within Stone Canyon, and wield powerful magics over the element of water. Some even claim that the Hyra have souls made of water, and report that a slain Hyra will unleash its watery soul to seek revenge on their killer.
Relations
The Hyra are extremely hostile to all outsiders, attacking on sight any who set foot in Stone Canyon. They have resisted all attempts at trade or diplomacy, though it is rumored they have struck an alliance with the Dunwyr.
