Thaumaturgy is perhaps best known for its ability to heal the injured, with accomplished Monks being able to heal even the most grievous of life-threatening wounds.  The common theory is that the healing is caused by the thaumaturgic light restoring the physical body to match its underlying spiritual form.  The healing must be performed within a reasonable time-frame, however - if a wound is left for too long, it is said that the physical body's spirit will adapt to this altered state and thaumaturgy will thus not be able to restore (heal) it to its previous form.  It should also be noted that thaumaturgy is unable to purge a body of poisons or toxins or most diseases.
