This is a currently outdated guide for examples of using additional strategies in physical conflicts in-game. For now, it is heavily incomplete, on the to-do list and should be taken with a grain or three of salt.

Outnumbering and Surrounding

When fighting several NPCs at once, you will notice your defense rolls dropping. This is due to the enemies outnumbering you and can be better dealt with as a group, rather than fighting on your own. Similarly, multiple players fighting one NPC will incur penalties to the NPC due to automatic flanking bonues. When in doubt, bring a friend, or become well-versed in holding your own against two or three targets with the Melee: Multi-Opponent Combat ability, which will reduce these detriments by completely ignoring the second enemy as far as reductions go and allowing you to fight three with minor penalties.

Tactics

Tactics are a choice that characters have in combat. There are a number of different tactics and to change your current tactic, simply type tactic followed by your choice. These can help you quite a bit in various scenarios, as well as allowing you to train specific skills over others.

  • Block - you will focus on blocking. Your offense will be severely penalized and you will have no parry or dodge roll.
  • Dodge - you will focus on dodging. Your offense will be severely penalized and you will have no parry or block roll. You also will not be able to attack with your off hand weapon due to focusing on defense.
  • None - no focus, your normal attack and defense rolls.
  • Offense - you are focusing on offense and your defensive rolls will be severely penalized (dodge, block, and parry).
  • Parry - you will focus on parrying. Your offense will be severely penalized and you will have no dodge or block roll. You also will not be able to attack with your off hand weapon due to focusing on defense.
  • Dirty Fighting - Requires a similarly named ability. No focus on defense or offense but with chance of using one of your known dirty tricks at random
  • Swashbuckling - Requires a similarly named ability. No focus on defense or offense but with a chance using Melee: Disarm or Melee: Feint at random, with a higher riposte chance.
  • Guardian - Requires a similarly named ability. Slightly reduced offense, better defenses, preemptive shield bashes and shoves, chance to intercept an attack made on any of your group members.
  • Guerilla - Requires a similarly named ability. No advantage on defense or offense but allows you to stay in ranged combat more easily.
