This system seems to me a bit redundant.
A lot of MUDs have the loot/autodecay feature which seems to be considerably more convenient. Just curious what your thoughts on this are, Rias et al.

Could you be more specific about this loot/autodecay feature? I'm not sure what you mean.
If the question is to why a creature's gear doesn't all automatically drop to the ground upon looting (or death), the answer is clutter control. Corpses eventually disappear, just like items do. However, like items, their timer doesn't go down when a player character is in the room, so you won't ever see one "decay" in front of you.
