Skill gain

Post by Deborah »

Hi all,
I was spending more time in game and tried also the leatherworking activity with the new crafting system. I figured out that simple actions like preparing a pelt, scraping it, and so on, are things that don't give any skill gain. Same thing happens with metalworking: if you grind a blade, you gain nothing in terms of learning. As it is basically the preparation of leather or metal, whatever, it would be really neat if we could gain some practice from preparation of materials. Now, I understand truly that it is not comparable the gaining you get from crafting, and the gaining you get from grinding or scraping, but it is something that should be integrated into the system. I'm explaining myself better: even I'm lesser percentage of gaining would allow one to increase their skill also from small actions. I hope I managed to explain the whole situation and I look forward to a feedback on this matter. 👍🏻😊

I'm here to bump this. I'm not sure how to calculate the amount given, maybe it could be based on the skinning difficulty of that pelt, or the mining difficulty of the metal, or similar. But even tiny bits of practice to leatherworking+skinning (or just skinning), or metalworking+mining (or just mining), would be awesome. Honestly, just bonuses to collection skills would be awesome.
A man walking through stops to glare at Ceridwenn and says, "Hey, lady! Pack your things, I'm kickin' you outta town for the crime of putting your filthy boots up on the table like a heathen!" Someone from a nearby table then laughs, "Jord, stop being a jackwagon, they'd never let you wear a militia badge!" The first man then snickers and ambles, rather drunkenly it appears, to join his friend at the other table.

Popping in here to mention that there have been a number of changes to the skill-gain formula in the last week or two, and for the most part there has been improvement across the board.

However, Metalworking, the original issue, is still stuck. Prior to the last update, it got stuck at 400 with no recipes available at that point capable of raising it to the 500 required to start making metal armor.

There was a patch seemingly intended to remedy that, but it appears to have stopped at 421, once again with no recipes providing enough gain to reach the 500 threshold to begin attempting to make armor.

I'm beginning to think that a single formula for experience-gains for every skill isn't a practical idea. We probably don't want buffs to crafting skill-gain ranges to make combat grinding too easy, nor the inverse.
