making rings from things other than metal

Post by preiman »

This might sound like a minor thing, but I'd love to be able to carve a simple wooden ring, or one of bone, I'd also love to be able to Carve and polish some stones into rings themselves. Just think of it, you could have a ring carved out of pure jade or onyx on your hand, instead of having to set these stones in a common gold or silver band.

I fully support this, but low quality wooden rings should have splinter risks.

I fully support this 100%. Think of the possibilities! Ratger than being set with stones, wooden rings could be carved with patterns, and stone rings, well, those are just awesome on their own, though it'd also be cool to have them randomly have swirls of different color in them, since most stones come in a variety of colors.

Also, I just know at least one person would make a solid diamond ring. lol

Anyone else immediately think of Snotty Jewelry from Black Adder at mention of a ring carved out of pure jade?

I think that there would be a limit on things. It wouldn't make sense to make a ring of a diamond. I've seen rings of amber and jade, and of course, bone and even coins. Hey! Riln rings anyone?

How do we know riln can even be fashioned into a ring, huh?

But no, rings made of bone, wood, stone, and yes, even riln and leather would be interesting.

Sorta related: Are piercings a thing? I mean besides earrings of course. Like, could we get our septum pierced? Our eyebrows? Lips? I imagine they'd have to be applied like tattoos, since I'm not sure how else it might be done.

I was mostly being a smart Alec about the riln thing. :)

Maybe even things like sinew. I know bracelets can be made out of them, but not sure about rings.

Taric had an RP going with a merchant that would have eventually led to weird piercings of some sort or something, but he hasn't gotten a response yet...

Hey, I'm fully in support of riln as a fashion sense. My Artisan does wear a skirt with riln sewn onto the hem, after all.

I assume Riln is some sort of precious metal or stone though, only way I can see it being the universally accepted currency it is.
