Highly recommended paperback book - Maelstrom by Alexander Scott

Post by Lemuel »

There is a lesser-known role-playing game I would recommend to all players and admins of Clok - it is called 'Maelstrom' and the best webpage for info on it, and further links, is at

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maelstrom_ ... ying_game)

It is an RPG set in Tudor-Elizabethan England, mostly historical with a bit of optional sorcery thrown in, and would provide a wealth of ideas for Clok players. There is a valuable herbal catalogue in the appendix, showing pics of numerous herbs and their harvesting seasons and uses as remedies; this appendix alone is worth it.

The paperback can be bought cheaply on sites like Amazon and is being sold as a .PDF download for US$10.

Sort of related to this. But Monte Cook has a new RPG coming out next year I believe called Numenera. It reminds me a lot of CLOK in that, magic = science, except MUCH more literally than in most settings. I'd suggest checkng it out. There's a kickstarter. =)

other Maelstrom sites of interest:

RPGNow - pdf sales site of Maelstrom core rule book http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php? ... s_id=54233

RPGNow - pdf sales site with all Maelstrom-related game modules, supplements, and accessories shown http://www.rpgnow.com/index.php?cPath=4 ... 3E%3C/a%3E
(by the way, the latest supplements with additions of 'fantasy' monsters spoiled the theme - if you wanted that, you'd just play D&D. Look for the Maelstrom items without the word 'fantasy' in it.

I can't seem to edit the original post of Sept 2012, perhaps the reason is that the original post was made on the old BBS server before it was migrated here.

The missing image, referenced in my original post and appearing now as only http://shop.chroniclecity.co.uk... etc. is now shown here:
