Metals and Gemstones

Post by Landion »

I often hear people ask what metals and gems can be found. These can now be found here:

Metals:
http://wiki.contrarium.net/index.php/Ore_Types

Gemstones:
http://wiki.contrarium.net/index.php/Gemstones

This does not list where these can be found, or the skill required to mine them. If I told you that, it would ruin the fun of exploring and finding out for yourself!

Obsidian and Zinc are the only two metals without descriptions, is something special about them?

Can Obsidian be used in forging weapons by itself?

Obsidian is just there as a placeholder right now, and can be sold, but not used in crafting systems.

Zinc is another metal that isn't as easy to find.

If/when obsidian is able to be used to create a weapon it will likely be based on lapidary skill to create the blade...

Considering it would involve stone crafting.

I also only see this being able to work for small weapons. Daggers, Hatchets, arrowheads. etc.

You won't see a greatsword made of obsidian. Even if you managed to find such a large chunk, it would be quite fragile and would shatter against the first hard surface you swung it at.
Why?
Because this is what an obsidian sword is: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macuahuitl

(It was a joke, though. Besides, there's plenty of people out there with high woodcrafting to make it for you instead.)

You may see some Macuahuitl if those nutty Tatlhuecan folk ever show up.
The lore compels me!
