To accomodate the new guard mechanic, people are now less forgiving. If you incur the hatred of a critter, it will no longer stop hating you upon your death (since death is temporary, after all!).
Be very careful who you mess with! "Accidents" (you accidentally put your hand in that guard's coin purse, riiiiight) will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis.

Now that we've got more involved faction mechanics, this has been lifted. If an NPC hates you and manages to kill you or personally witnesses you die, it will no longer hate you specifically. If you are hated by that NPC's faction, of course, they'll still be hostile toward you.
Some NPCs may be set to be unforgiving in the future, though none are currently.
