Water issues in Haiban

Post by Kent »

Two separate items, both suggestions that have something to do with water in Haiban:

(1) There are water pumps a-plenty throughout the streets of Haiban south, but I could find none throughout the streets of Haiban North. Hard to understand this disparity of the north and south...surely Haiban North has enough wealth to afford at least a single water pump.

(1b) It would affect only the members of the Mercenaries, but it would seem to make sense to have a wash basin in or just outside the Mess Hall. Currently, if Kent goes in to have a nice meal at the Mess Hall, he is turned away because he is bloody and he has to walk a while to find a wash pump in Haiban South.

(2) Up in the donation room in Haiban north, on the sign on that wall, suggested donations for the town include 'potable water'. Does this make sense from an RP point of view? Haiban is situate on a freshwater river, and as it stands, at worst the denizens of North Haiban have to walk the bridge to the south to find water pumps, or just out the gate to get an abundance of water. Asking for weapons, horseshoes, etc makes sense, but for the water doesn't.

The artisan's compound in north Haiban has 3 wash rooms where you can not only wash but dry as well. If that's not enough, a quick wander from the gate should let you wash at the river.

The artisan's compound is not on the public streets and therefore does not balance the disparity between the north and south.

Neither does the suggestion to wander out and use the river. I would like to be there if you were ever at a restaurant and asked for the washroom, and you were told they had none but you could go out the back door and use the lake to wash up in...I'd like to see how you'd stand for that.

in this particular time frame it was not uncommon for people to do exactly that. Wash up in the river I mean. The fact that most people didn't bathe but whenever specifically told to or when it rained was not uncommon as well. Also keep in mind at this point in time it was also not uncommon for people to call washing up splashing some water out of the horse trough which was still water repeatedly contaminated by horse spit, and the bacteria within, as well as from all the others guys who did the same thing.

Why, 1219, of course. But then again, in 1219 few businesses would refuse to take your money because you had blood on you, all the while refusing to have a well, pump, trough, or washbasin in proximity of the business so you could wash said blood off
