Swashbuckling to work with cutlasses

Post by Lun »

It seems thematically appropriate that a cutlass would function with swashbuckling, so I'd like to see this happen. As it's a 2 lb weapon, it should technically fall under the category of lighter-weight swords for the purposes intended.

This basically comes down to an issue of game vs reality. I agree that it makes sense for a cutlass to be used with a style of combat called, "swashbuckling" however the problem comes from game balance as the weapon was actually a copy of another weapon (with small changes) that would not be considered appropriate. This was done to accommodate a certain parren character back in the day and it was never meant to be used with anything other that because it was mostly an aesthetic change of the noun.

Now if we were to use this with swashbuckling, the entire damage set of the weapon would need to be changed and it would become more similar to a rapier or other light weapon which can be used with the swashbuckling tactic.

TLDR version: Only if we change the entire weapon's damage and strikes to be more like a rapier.
It's not easy being evil...

Hey Noctere,

Thanks for your really fast response - I totally understand. That's a tough call - many people like cutlasses the way they are, and so do I.
