University jobs?

Post by Orris »

Would there be any possibility for student jobs at the University to make riln, and maybe some guild points? I don't see these academics all out mining, logging, and farming. The upside would be little or no risk, and the downside would be you probably wouldn't get any actual skills out of the jobs. Just riln, and maybe a few meager guild points. They'd also probably be pretty mindless.
  • Collect and re-order books in the library.
  • Clean the cafeteria.
  • Clean the labs (assuming labs exist, if they don't I think they should!)
  • Drag away old training dummies and set up new ones (it would be funny to get shot at occasionally as you do this).
  • Pyromancers: keep fires going (like the one on the common room that doesn't actually burn the logs - the fueling energy has to come from somewhere, right?)
  • Hydromancers: Help keep water supplies stocked, maybe channel some energy into magical fountains around the grounds or something?
  • Aeromancers: Channel energy into the aero lift.
  • Geomancers: Repairwork and upkeep on the stone walls?
Just some ideas, some are better than others. Hopefully some other people will have more to add.

To avoid people getting rich off automating University jobs, there could even be a credit system, where instead of riln, you get credit that can only be spent in University shops.

I like these ideas and a few made me chuckle to think about.

I like them too, and they go along well with the other stuff I had for gaining guild points academically rather than just attacking things. I'll add then to my brand-new "requests to be filled" list.
The lore compels me!

Teach students. As in, gather a bunch of students, bring them to X area, demonstrate elemancy by doing X thing. Be it the little differences we have to look for or how to turn things into mincemeat.

Awesome. Can you publish that list in the announcements section so we can get all giddy when we see our requests on it, and then come back an hour later and whine about it not being implemented yet?

Aren't a lot of those things that Elemancers can't actually do? (Since they can't create permanent matter.)

Many of the requests appear to be more about channeling energy into the University facilities, presumably keeping their magical artifacts and machinery charged, rather than providing the actual matter. The exception would be keeping of the water supplies stocked, but even that may work via some artifact or automated hydromancy channeler. According to the recently-released document, I would assume that even magically-conjured water would persist once a creature drank it, due to conjured water's capability to bond with other matter.

Imagine an elemancy-powered water cooler that University staff gather around to chat and gossip. A dormant hydromancy-channeling artifact that, when activated, provides water to fill a cup. Perhaps the cup is tall and thin, providing more surface area for the water to bond to, and hence persist rather than dispersing once the artifact is deactivated.

This is presuming such artifacts exist. Just letting my mind wander with possibilities.

The water is mixed with sand then Geomancy is used to remove the sand which is then stored in a new vat. In fact that would be a separate task, to remove the sand from the water.
