What Does Your Character Sound Like?

Post by Lysse »

I was a little hesitant to start this thread, since it might make people draw too many parallels between real world cultures and Clok cultures, but I thought this might be neat to do anyways.

Whenever Lysse is talking, I have a specific way she sounds in my head, and I was curious if anyone else has that with their PCs? What kind of accents do you picture your PCs as having?

This is sort of what I hear in my head, for Lysse.

Heh I usually picture my characters as speaking with my own voice, but I'm pretty accentless most of the time, despite my proper southern childhood. I imagine this thread would be more useful for people who make their characters have accents so... toodles!

Dorn probably sounds like Marv. "That is a nice coat..."

I picture Ydia with a soft, sweet voice.

Artus sounds similar to a Japanese voice actor, Koichi Tochika, who voiced Hyuga Neji in Naruto. But Artus sounds younger and a bit higher pitch. Also, he has a little bit of Indian accent, like when he says anything with the letter "r", he goes by that rolling "r" some Asian people including Indian, and also spanish have. Or when he says a word that has "L" as the consanent, he doesn't say it like "al-l", but like "an-l". His "F" sounds a bit like "V" as well.
Here's how Koichi sounds like :

Stranger sounds like a mix between someone who has gained a guttural, raspy voice by smoking their entire life and Eeyore from Winnie the Pooh.

Maric has a deep booming voice, but I always thought he spoke slowly, and maybe didn't always pronounce things correctly. The idea originally was that he didn't speak common all that well, but in the end that was sort of more pain than it was worth, so the idea that he is good but not perfect is a remnant of that original idea.

Viridiana, I always thought she spoke with a sort of lowborn Vialli accent that she tries unsuccessfully to hide.

Dimon, he just sounds smug and a little pompous most times.

Perth, Perth is a thick, really thick Faewyr accent, which for some reason I associate with Irish.

Granny Sarint, she sounds like your grandmother after 3 pints of whiskey. No really just old and tired but always slightly drunk, and a little sad, even when she's laughing. like deep down there is a hurt that never quite goes away.

Lysolda sounds like Brienne, from game of thrones. She's the knight in this scene: It is game of thrones so while I don't think there's anything nsfw in this scene,, well, it is GOT.

Aleari has a very rich, musical voice, though I haven't quite found the perfect actress to represent that.

Morgania has a very elaborate British accent. Claudia Black has a rich and amused vocal quality which is similar, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qQovAuIz7wg, though Morgania sounds a bit younger with a slightly less rough voice.

I can imagine two sort of voices for Vide, one is Bryce Papenbrook who voiced Zidane in ff series, the other is the Japanese version of Rock Lee from Naruto (Masukawa Yoichi).

Yoichi:

Bryce:

For Farren, the closest I can get is Kondo Takashi who voiced Suigetsu in Naruto.

For those wonder, I've posted Artus' somewhere in this topic before.

One thing that has evolved with me over the years is that I give less tones and more styles to my characters, so I don't really imagine Arty with much accent anymore. But the way he talks isn't going to change anytime soon, so here I go again.

Artus' prototype voice is still the same, a younger, somewhat higher version of something close to Koichi Tochika who voices Hyuga Neji in Naruto. Base voice example is this:

Chaer is a hard one. It took me forever to even find someone close and the best I can dig up is a guy in this song, but imagine a much deeper, much lower and softer version of him.
