Bleeding wounds clotting
Bleeding wounds clotting
Would it be possible to make it so that if a wound bleeds for more than a certain amount of tics, it would "clot" (might be a better name) and stop bleeding until reopened? It just seems slightly annoying/unrealistic that I can go several days with a bleeding cut on my foot when I don't have a bandage available.

Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
I could see this with the least severe of bleeding wounds, but not beyond that and only after it has bled for a while (and maybe if we could hold pressure on it).
In CLOK you don't bleed until the wound is pretty bad anyway, whereas in the real world even a scratch can bleed. For that reason, I'd say it's reasonable to believe that a bleeding wound in CLOK is severe enough that even with direct pressure and time it isn't going to stop bleeding without proper treatment.
It makes even more sense when you think about the mechanism of injury. Ragged beastly claw wounds, sword and dagger gashes, arrow puncture wounds, and splattering/shattering maul strikes would be difficult to treat in the real world, which is why only the best poulticed bandages in CLOK are going to heal them (minus thaumaturgy, of course).

Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
All that's true, I guess. Its just majorly annoying at times to be bleeding for SO long. Id be happy if instead of clotting, you just die after bleeding for long enough :/

Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
You can die from bleeding, each tic of bleeding causes energy loss, if there's enough energy loss it'll make you go unconscious, and then if you don't recover you eventually die. I've always assumed that with lighter wounds you bleed a little, I picture the actual bleeding wounds that cause massive energy loss to only be those that threaten to kill you, so like if you've got a light wound some bleeding would be excpecteb like if you were to get a paper cut or something, but a heavyer wound like a bad injury would be more akin to chopping a finger off with a hand axe or something.
Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
You only die from bleeding, that Ive found, if your wounds altogether equal 10 or more energyloss per tick. Anything less, and you can be bleeding forever, technically. Though you might be basically weakened to taking a few steps before having to rest again.

Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
I'll add here that really any injury you take is in some way beyond the usual cuts and scrapes of life. if you check your health when you have no wounds, it doesn't say you're completely fine, it says you have no significant injuries. from that we can assume that anything the game actually bothers to tell you about is significant, and by the time you're bleeding to the point where you're losing energy, you're probably gushing or at least losing blood in the kind of way that would have you in the hospital in our world.

Would also like to point out that our limbs start becoming difficult to use at moderately wounded, and that takes some significant damage. By the time they start bleeding, they are almost completely useless. If you have an arm bleeding -5 or more, you cannot fight with arm anymore. I think it's safe to say that bleeding injuries are injuries you would likely never fully heal from IRL.

Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
See Preiman and Fayne's posts just previous to this one. If you're bleeding to the point you're losing energy, it's beyond the point where it'll just clot on its own, hence bandages are required at that point. Wounds less than those can certainly draw blood, they're just not serious enough to cause serious energy loss through blood loss alone. You can assume those ones are indeed clotting, hence no energy loss.
The lore compels me!

I suggest new flavor text for bandaging bad and severe wounds that describe you gathering the fleshy ribbons that used to be your body into a bandage and sobbing quietly as you wrap them up.

Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
Will have to look into this as a possible bug. Unless there's been a change, having any sort of bleeding should prevent any natural energy regeneration. Even with -1 per tick, you should be able to eventually die from it.Kunren wrote:You only die from bleeding, that Ive found, if your wounds altogether equal 10 or more energyloss per tick. Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
That's a definite bug then as it's never prevented energy regen for me. Thought that was how it was supposed to be.

Right because it gives you a chance to regain consciousness if it isn't too grave.

This is why I thought it was intended. I think it's fair if the energy loss is very minor to give you a chance to regain conciousness on your own. There certainly isn't a shortage of death currently, so I assume people are still dying at a reasonable rate even with this bug present.
Re: Bleeding wounds clotting
I hate to bring bad news, but the bug allowing energy regen while bleeding was indeed a bug and has been fixed. The only chance of regaining consciousness is being bandaged/healed by a passer-by or using the DIE command, which is why the command was originally implemented. Sorry!
