Thaelsh events

Post by Alexander »

(It would be good to have a category specifically for the discussion of events. For the time being perhaps the various events and occurrences having to do with the Thaelsh arc can be posted here, so as to consolidate them.)

I wanted to express my appreciation to both the GMs and the other players who participated tonight. It was a most enjoyable experience. It is interesting to witness the differing character views and opinions regarding what is occurring.

I'll be around most of the day on and off. So I'll try to get things rolling when we have the most people around, probably mid-to-late afternoon depending on who's around.

I'm glad you're having fun.

Wow. Tonight's Thaelsh event was very well done.

Nice combo of combat, history, and chances for us to roleplay individually. The pace was slow enough that it felt like we could talk and emote and stay in suspense, but fast enough that it was never boring. The new enemies were a nice touch, and everything with the Commander was great. Changing the temple and altar's descriptions was a very nice touch and really gave a sense of accomplishment, even more than the cool loot at the end.

This is even more amazing, considering there was only a single GM running it.

So kudos, Landion! Thank you so much for an incredible event, and thank you everyone who was involved with the planning.

This game rocks!

Thank you Lacie, I am glad you enjoyed it, even with the few little mistakes here and there.

I'm real sorry I had to cut out at the last second. A real life emergency hit me, at just the wrong moment, and I was forced to deal with it.

Did the event go through as scheduled? If so what did I miss?

I hope all is well with you, Stranger. I will try to recall and explain the occurrences within Thaelsh.

Gad, Keleran, Lacie, Troy and myself accompanied Sharinas and Dimmes to the tainted temple at Thaelsh, with the purpose of guarding Dimmes while he would perform a ritual to cleanse the area of nether. The strategy of all of us guarding Dimmes while he worked was simple, yet I enjoyed it very much. I imagined us all standing in an outward-facing circle around the monk as he began driving the light-infused celestium rods into the ground. As he worked, swarms of nethrim assaulted us. It was satisfying to see any attacks on Dimmes be intercepted by someone in the group. He then began chanting, and the ground began to rumble, along with the sound of wails and cries from outside.

At some point during the attacks, Jaster logged in, and we informed him of where we were and he quickly came to joins us. After fighting off several more waves of nethrim, including the very disturbing addition to their ranks of mummified women and children (during which Alexander was too stunned to act for the first several moments, though thankfully the other group members did not appear quite so shaken), the temple walls began to glow with light, and moments later, they (and the rest of the temple) appeared to be cleansed of the nether-taint. It is also my understanding that the temple will now be a safe place in Thaelsh where the nethrim cannot enter.

We cleared out the few remaining nethrim within the temple, and came to a meeting hall within the temple, where there was a rotting chest. Jaster proceeded to work on picking the lock, and though he had some trouble and we convinced Lacie to not use an axe t open it, lest the contents be damaged, Jaster was able to pick the lock. Inside were various commodity treasures such as gold, silver and gems. There were also some ancient kite shields bearing the symbol of a burning torch and a piece of parchment. The parchment was written by Captain Thorns Brennin and described the last few moments of Thaelsh, writing of a sudden and swift attack by overwhelming swarms of nethrim, springing from the ground. At the end of his writing, he requested that their tainted souls be released by whomever might find the parchment, and deliver them from what would surely be a tormented existence tainted by the nether. I believe Gad is in possession of the parchment currently, if you would like to seek him out and see it yourself. I am hoping we can establish a sort of museum within Shadgard in which we might place such items of historical value.

At this point Sharinas and Dimmes left, and Alexander again heard the whisperings of Commander Harnlim. We at last met him in the flesh, such as it was in the form of his revenant, still bedecked in his armor and wielding his sword. He explained to us that the nether kept his body alive, yet it had relatively little power over him due to his celestium armor, which kept the nether at bay. Apparently his armor is what inspired the nethrim to possess him rather than destroy him and study the effects of the celestium, that they might find a way to overcome it.

Commander Harnlim explained to us that the sorcerers had apparently been infiltrating, planning and coordinating the attack for some time, and then described the last few moments in Thaelsh, during which he and his men made a stand in the Temple. During their last moments there was an earthquake which apparently is what sunk Thaelsh into the ground. He did not know what might have caused the earthquake, but suspected there might have been a traitor within the ranks of the sorcerers.

Harnlim then presented his celestium longsword to Alexander and asked that Alexander release him at last. With a few strikes to the neck (one of which was humorously dodged by the Commander, presumably simply due to the combat mechanics in place, though Landion commented in OOC that it might be explained as the nether fighting to for control), the Commander's body was killed, and with a last look upward and a sigh of relief, his body vanished in a flash of light.

The celestium longsword is of exceedingly fine quality and is inscribed with the words "Swift Respite". Alexander informed Sharinas that he plans to wield it in the Commander's stead until Thaelsh is cleansed, at which point Alexander would turn the sword over to the Templar to find some other particular use in the battle against the nethrim.

I agree with all of Lacie's sentiments. I very much enjoyed the altered look and the extra rooms of the temple. As was stated, it gives a real sense of accomplishment, and serves as evidence that we have served to make a difference in the world. I was glad to learn some more of the history of Thaelsh, and I wonder if we might set up some sort of museum fund so that we might have a place to publicly display some historical items, such as the parchment that was found in Thaelsh.

Thank you for giving an opportunity for Alexander to be involved in such an event befitting his character (despite the few outbursts and conflicts). I look forward to what the GMs come up with next, and eagerly await seeing others get their chance to shine.

Sounds like it was fun event. Ya I think a little museum with artifacts would be a great way to keep a chronicle of town events so that new people can simply visit the museum to catch up on the history of the town. Maybe even have a town chronicler inside that when you type something like "TOUR" at the beginning he/she would walk you through the museum and tell you about each artifact as he walks along. Maybe give the job to one of the orphans lol

I'm sorry I wasn't around to assist. You've got to love how vacations are often busier than you'd normally be. It probably went better without me - Landion's a very capable GM. Can't wait to get a better look at the logs!

Tonight a small force made up of various Nethrim assaulted the gates outside of Shadgard. A hooded revenant lead the forces and seemed to be muttering and upset about 'intruders' and his 'temple'.

Shortly after the attack Sharinas appeared and explained that the Church had recently sent additional forces into Thaelsh to begin to study the ruins further. She encouraged adventurers to seek out the monks assisting with the study if they needed aid. Though added it seemed that the Nethrim are not pleased that the temple has been cleansed and occupied.
