Irwin hates my weapons?

Post by Drayla »

I came across an issue while turning in a few tasks recently. While I was building my forging skills, I went and bought weapons from Shadgard and Mistral to turn in to complete the tasks I got, and when I turned them in I would get a couple thousand riln, which would negate the cost of the items and leave me with a couple hundred extra. I figured since I was getting so much riln for them, I start turning in my own weapons once I got to forging average and it would benefit me with skillgains and a hefty sum of riln to show for my hard work. However, when I turned in my first assignment of six polearms, I only got a few hundred. I figured it was from my mixture of shop items and hand-made items, so I tried again, this time turning in seven bronze maces, all of average quality and made by myself. I got 205 riln. This seems like an issue, especially RP-wise. If I'm only going to make 205 riln off of 7 maces, I'd rather sell the 14 bronze bars I made them with, buy the weapons from Mistral, and turn them in, with an overall profit well over what I got for making the weapons myself in less than 1/4 of the time. And in terms of RP, why would Irwin be willing to pay thousands of riln for your average, everyday shop item, then only pay a couple hundred for a few of the same quality that took hours of work and practice in order to make, and helped the trader to further his or her skills in their particular trade? I hope this gets changed.

Well considering the fact that you gain the skill ups for mining, forging, possibly woodworking and the extra riln for completing the task I wouldn't complain too loudly and demand that something be fixed when you already gain quite a bit more than any other guild out there cause truthfully I know of no other guild that gains nearly as much per task. Now on the flipside it does take time to mine the ores, gather branches, forge and carve and all that jazz, but considering that the pay you get is scaled according to the level of quality of your created weapons I'd say that if you are insistent on saving all that time then you probably shouldn't have chosen a guild that requires time and commitment based on crafting skills since like in real life they require supplies and time and practice. So no nothing is broken you are just given the option of turning something in and improving yourself or turning something in as a courier. you get that extra riln when you turn in purchased weapons because the guild is reimbursing you for your purchase, which I personally believe is a detriment to the environment because it promotes the quick way around things. That's my two cents. Traders have a pretty easy time about their guild tasks if they do things right, everyone else can get theirs done faster sure, but that's to be expected when your guild task is go kill this guy, or go forage ten of this. Irwin doesn't hate your weapons, he's just not going to pay you extra based on labor, that's something you'll have to charge players since you can negotiate with them.

I'm going to weigh in on this weapons task issue.
If you go and buy your weapons instead of forging them yourself, you'll be comensated for the money you spent in the purchasing of those weapons, but you only get 200 riln profit.
However, if you went and mined the ore needed for those weapons, you're getting skill gains in mining. Then, when you forge the weapon, you're getting skill gain in the Forging: General skill, plus skill gains in either the Bladed weapons, or the Blunt weaspons area, depending on the weapons you're asked to turn in.
Now, if you carve the hafts or hilts, you're getting skill gains in woodworking.
If your weapons are just average, you're only going to get 200 riln. The better the quality, the more riln you'll get when you turn them in. You won't get a whole lot extra, but the weapons tasks are design to give you lots of money. They're design to help increase your skills in multiple areas.
The tasks traders get that are specifically for riln are the ones that tell you to mine so much copper and sell the bars to mistral.. or the ones that tell you to forage for so much comfrey and sell it to the coalition. That money is all yours.
I hope this clears things up a little bit.
I too, originally thought I'd get all that money for forging the weapons myself, but I preferred to buy the weapons rather than forge them, because I wanted the guild points so I could gain the different abilities, so it would help me when I did eventually decide to forge and make the weapons myself.
