Basic Training

Post by KianTheArcher »

Basic Training

I was talking to Nootau's player about basic training, and agreed that what you actually get from gaining the ability is mediocre. I do like the fact that there's a flat skill gain, but I don't think it's enough to justify having to spend an ability point on it.

This being said, I think a nice way to make the ability better (and emphasise that the character is actually undergoing special <though basic> training for their selected guild) would to be to make it so that the character that gains the ability has an increase amount of skillgain in the skills associated with it. As an example, thief basic training would allow thieves to learn stealth, pickpocket, locksmithing, and other skills associated with basic training at a faster rate than non-thieves.

I like my Basic Training a lot. (It's where most of my Stealth and Perception comes from.) What I don't like was that it looks like ability requisites were raised to account for it. (I could be wrong there. Please correct me if I am.) I really don't think that Basic Training enabling me to get an ability faster is a bad thing.

That said, I do find the increased skill gains idea interesting.

Well, as it stands it isn't really basic training in what I would call basic training. It's just a flat skill boost. And it's nice, but to me having basic training in a guild is more than just being given skill gains. It should represent the fact that you're being trained in the basics of a specialised field. So yes you learn how to do things better, but at the same time because of your training in that field, you know the ins and outs and the tricks behind it, which would be represented by a modest increase to skill gains in the related skills.
