What's in a name?

With the introduction system gone, the NAME system is a little awkward.

Back in the default-anonymous COGG days, I would "NAME <person> AS <Name> (<aura color>)" so that they'd show up as such in the room, and also on the NAMES list.

Now that we see all names by default with the nickname appended with a slash, I "NAME <person> AS <aura color>", since my original approach ends up showing them in-room as "Name/Name (aura)" rather than "Name/Aura".

This works for occupant lists, but when I went to look at my NAMES to remember who's-that-aura, all I get now are the aura colors, which is unhelpful.

Can we either get an option to hide a PC's original name if a nickname is assigned, an option to display original names on the NAMES list, or both?

More on this topic: The current name system interacts really poorly with "disguised" characters. Any name you've set on their un-disguised face isn't shown, but you can still see their character name. And then if you give their disguised face a name, it completely replaces their real name, i.e. "name Foo as Bar" becomes "?Bar?" rather than "Foo/Bar".

This is problematic in many ways because of the lack of anonymity. If the desire isn't for people to be able to metagame, even inadvertently, threats to them or otherwise because they can see the characters' tree name all the time instead of a system being in place to allow disguises, the current system actually wholly supports this. You don't need an introduction or to assign a name, the players just know the characters' true names by default which is going to spawn massive amounts of metagame where it could be curbed by having descriptions a la COGG and a disguise system tied to the clothing set commands and requiring specific clothing items.

You cannot tell someone's exact height, body build, skin color, hair color and oft eye color (unless in good enough lighting and based on the helm's visor) if they are in full plate. Every inch of skin is covered save for slits in the helm which can be very hard to see into if the light isn't sufficient. Masks can be made to hide faces, hoods can hide hair behind them and the overall shadow of a hood+a full facial mask can make it impossible to fully identify someone by anything but their otherwise overt clothing (if they aren't wearing anything to hide it) and body build.

As Rias has commented on it, it's probably a system that's going to stay in place, but I will put this here in the hopes of preventing massive catastrophe or at least getting consideration for a COGG-like system re-implemented once the aforementioned has happened.
