I was playing around with elemancy and cryomancy recently (separately, sadly) and realized that elements are pretty immediate - you channel something and immediately it's out at full power. I think it'd be cool if opening a new single element channel started you off with a low maximum damage, but the longer you hold the channel, the higher the maximum damage goes.
I realized it wouldn't work with weaves, but it would be a fun way to make single-element channels more interesting and fun for someone who's been holding a channel a while.
