Age bracket update possibility?

Is there any chance of a one-time age bracket update for a character? I made this character something around 10 years ago, and when I picture him now I see him showing his age quite a bit more than he did then. If no, then not a big deal.

E-mail is perhaps a better place to ask for suggestions or requests for your own character. There is also the new nifty REQUEST command if you prefer something in game. Unless you were suggesting a new feature for something game wide that you wanted others to voice their opinions on.

As to your question, such a thing has been done in the past but I will leave the final say up to or magnanimous developer.

I was considering contacting staff about it more directly, but then I thought it would be a nice option for everyone who wanted it.

I have some ideas on how I'd like to make an aging advancement system available to everyone, along with a one time age advancement available for legacy players that predate it if they wish to opt-in.

The age categories are a topic of curiosity to me. So many "young" and "youthful" characters running around, when "mature" and "adult" are the options which follow. I've seen folks refer to someone as "young" being 20, which makes little sense to me, what with adult clearly being an option. An adult would be someone in the mid-late teens, no later than the early 20s. Mature, the next youngest category, would be someone just coming out of puberty. Anything before that...

So many prepubescent sociopaths running around it's nuts. But the only the ones which haven't dropped.

If there are restrictions on the physical size of a person when joining an organization, surely there should be restrictions on size and guild for age, as well. What happens to all those 7-foot tall kids when they hit their growth spurts?

There are no teenager or child player characters in CLOK.

I'll try my to remember that, though I can make no promises that neither I nor my characters will adhere to that paradigm of thinking.

If this is the case, I would suggest making adult be the youngest option available to remove confusion from this arbitrary rule. The other options, by definition, indicate that there are teenagers and children.

[Your character's gender is now: male

Please choose your character's age (characters are at a minimum 18 years old):

1. young
2. youthful
3. mature
4. an adult
5. in the prime of life
6. past the prime of life
7. elderly
8. ancient
If you are found to be playing a "child" character, no promises that we won't set all your skill caps to 100, your ability point cap to 5, and restrict your ability to fight with anything but light weapons.

I'd prefer you just not though.

I'm sorry if that came off a bit harsh by the way, it's just, that this isn't a "I'll try to remember" kind of thing, it's policy, it's been policy since the day we first had someone actually try to RP a little kid. As soon as we noticed it was going on, we put it in there, it's been in the character creation system and I believe it's talked about elsewhere on the BBS.

There's like one guy, who slipped in before we made that thing in the character creator, who has severe restrictions and limitations on his character. I don't think he's currently actively playing it.

I'll be expanding on the age system to make it a bit less ambiguous and also add a wider variety of descriptors in the future. Right now plan is to give everyone a hard set age, that will automatically advance in real time. Descriptors will be in 10 year brackets from 20-30, 30-40, 40-50, and 60-70, and 70+. It'll be a mandatory setting upon character creation. Legacy players will be able to move up or down a single bracket (providing they're not already in the 20-30 bracket) when they get a chance to update their age.

It didn't come off as harsh. My skin's thick, and I'm treating this as a sounding board and learning opportunity.

The expansion of the age system with those types of categories will be a fantastic improvement, in my opinion, and will definitely aid in removing ambiguity.

So, my thought on this is that it's the characters apparent age. E.G: I might look 40, but i'm actually 20, or vice versa. I've never been of the mentality that there are kids running around in this game, personally. Haha. As previously stated, it's plastered all over the place that folks can't play kids or child characters.

In my case, my character has the youthful descriptor, but not because he's a teen/child. He's a mid twenties-ish guy who happens to retain a lot of youthful features. Doesn't grow facial hair well, disshevveled hair, that sort of thing.

But that's just me, of course. I just couldn't help but put in my two riln.

I would like to request this little thing if its possible. That the changing of age instead of basing on real time, kindly base it on playtime. like lets say 1hr of playtime be equal to lets say... 8hr of aging? this way, the people with multiple alts will be able to enjoy the change on their own terms and would be able to enjoy playing different characters.

I apologize if the phrasing is bad, as English is not my first language so there might be something that i may have written differently than it was supposed to be.

I've definitely noticed that this seems to be how most people approach it, and could tell that I was in the minority (only one?) with my thinking on the subject.

I spend minimal time on the BBS and other OOC mediums usually, but sought this thread out when a friend mentioned it to me, as I've vented to him on the topic. I haven't seen it plastered all over the place (not that I have, or will) that folks can't be kids, and I obviously quickly skimmed past the (minimum 18) portion when creating my character since I had no intention of being anything less than adult.

I've played games like that before, Eagalon, and my character wound up being thousands of years old...

I'm pretty set on the real time thing. If you don't play a character for 10 real life years, then I'd imagine you weren't that attached to it in the first place.

I think it would be based on real world time..not 1 hr of playtim be out hours of aging, but one hour in real life is one our in game. I'm not fond of automatic aging, but if it's a 1-1 in real world hours, then it should be fine

Hi,
It is maybe worth remembering that Clok is a persistent rp world; things can happen whether or not you are there to witness them. It seems a safe assumption that The quit command will not erase your character until you are next logged in, and that it is impossible to remain online for every living breathing moment of your characters life, and wandering away or sleeping or scholarly seclusion or anything else your character might be doing can also occur while you are not personally available to play them? I would be very much okay with aging occurring whether or not a character is logged in, especially considering Clok time is equivalent to real time.

Oh, yeah. For the record, i'm also totally cool with the concept of aging. I think this is an amazing idea which I whole-heartedly support.

..Maybe one day this means I can log in 30 years from now and experience the glory that is Old Man Zeldryn. Swinging his cane at all of the neighborhood kids, talking about how awesome he used to be, and that he once knifed a drake this big.

I'm just gonna go away and think about that for a while, thanks

I too would love this aging idea... I mean, it keeps the feeling that my chars are still alive even if I'm not in their heads.

Wow nobody else up for eternal youth? Am so sad now. :) It's just a joke, I think aging would be awesome... Makes me curious what happens after someone hits ancient though... Cough cough Kent.

I have to agree with this.

We indeed should start with "Adult" as the first choice on the age selection list, or perhaps another way for would be to merge categories 1, 2, and 3 into "Young Adult", then the next option would be "Adult" and then onward as listed.
