Tone & Speech Additions

I only end up noticing these as I go along, trying to use them and realizing they don't work (which is usually when my PCs have blank says):

TONE
pleasant(ly), considerate(ly), indifferent(ly), apathetic(ly), ambivalent(ly), comprehending(ly), cagey (cagily), evasive(ly), ponderous(ly), reticent(ly)

SPEECH
confirm, praise, reason, relay, refuse, answer, evade, sigh

Also a few words I was thinking about:
Chide (both tone and speech? S/he chides, s/he chidingly says...)
Taunt (both tone and speech?)
Acquiesce (speech)
Blurt (speech)
Chime (speech, as in s/he chimes in, "blah blah blah!")
Hint (speech)
Rant (speech)

Most of these have now been added. To increase response time, provide lists of tones and speeches separately, and alphabetically.

Would it be possible to perhaps have an option to list only tones that pertain to a certain general emotion? For instance, you could type 'tone list happy' and it would return all "happy" tones, like excited, happy, etc. This would make it a lot easier to find a tone now that the list is starting to get three miles long.

As I'm guessing the lists of tones and speeches are a flat text file, or near enough equivalent, it'll take quite a bit of work to actually code in a way to sort them in any particular fashion. Else we'd have a way to by now. I remember suggesting some method of sorting in another thread and it didn't get a response. It's starting to become necessary, though, so hopefully something can be managed.

Main problem I see is that a lot of the categorization could be subject to opinion. When I tone (yes, I verbed the noun version of the word), I rarely look at the tone list; I just try a few tones I think would be appropriate, and for the ones that don't exist, I write them down with a note to add them later. I urge everyone else to do the same. It's trivial to add new tones, so don't feel bad about throwing huge lists of requested tones at us (just try to alphabetize them, that makes it easier on my OCDness to add them in the code). Maybe one day we'll have them all! We'll be famous far and wide as "that MUD where you can just type in any tone and it just works!"

I was talking with someone one day about how nice it'd be to not need to add them to a list, but supply your own. Though I'm sure that isn't viable now, as all the work that's been put into what we have now is far too comprehensive to toss aside.

I do the same thing as Rias; I rarely look, I just use what comes to my mind.

For instance, during the fun today:
$speech - elaborate

Tone:
miserably

Speech:
guess
coax

Also, could the tone version of 'teasingly' be switched to 'teasing' instead of 'tease'? That's how most, if not all, of the other ones are, and it throws me off.

I'm confused about this. Why is it a black sheep?

Because you have to type 'tone tease, instead of 'tone teasing' to use it, while every other tone you type exactly what it is minus the -ly at the end.

Oh, I get it. I was thinking you meant the actual message, not the tone name.

Sorry to keep this going, but while scanning the list, another one that pops out: the 'glee' tone should probably be 'gleeful'. And 'conspirator' should be 'conspiratorial'.

I noticed, though, that teasing was fixed. Thank you!

Trying to make more work for us! Conspiratorial is so long to type...

It doesn't make me squirm because it's not a real suggestion.
