Toggle/Suppress Skill Gains

This may sound weird, but hear me out: I'd like the ability to turn off skill gains for certain skills.
The way tasks work in CLOK is that their difficulty is set to your highest relevant skill. This means that if you accidentally over-train any one of your skills that you are now at a significant disadvantage as all of your tasks will be set to that one skill while your other skills are lagging behind. The only solution to this problem is to make your skills catch up, but this is problematic as many skills are linked together. It's especially bad for people who, for whatever reason, train multiple skills within the same family.
For example, say that Elystole wants to train hafted weapons and brawling because he doesn't want to be completely defenseless if he's unarmed or because he wants to punch some people out and decapitate others. If I train both skills equally, my melee skill is going to be twice that which means my tasks are going to be set to my melee skill. But I'm not actually at that level, my effective level is considerably lower than that and I'm going to get whalloped on my tasks.
Right now the only solution is to get lessons in some skills but not others, but that's not very effective because you're still gaining that unwanted skill. So while I was trying to get my hafted weapons skill to catch up to my melee skill, I was continuing to gain melee skill because there's no way to train hafted weapons without it. Same thing would happen if I wanted to learn hurled weapons and firearms as my marksmanship would race ahead. Same thing happens to Elemancers or Rooks since they have multiple magic skills.
If we could "toggle skill" or "suppress add skill" like we do with our skill favorites list, something to turn off skill gains for that skill, it'd really facilitate people managing their skills. I've noticed more than a few people who have accidentally trained themselves into a spot where they can no longer do tasks and that really hurts enjoyment.
