My ideas is on smoking. The way it would work is you would be able to pick the type of wood you want, make a pipe and then forage for surtin herbs and grind them. After that, you can pack your pipe with these herbs and smoke the pipe.
Also, after using your pipe a few times, you would have to clean the ashes out before being able to light the pipe again and you should be able to light the pipe if you have a stove or a campfire in the room as well.
I thought this might add a bit of flaver for roll play as well.

That would be kind of neat. Or, in the case of things, add a way to grow tobacco and allow the person to, not only via woodcarving, but via pottery as well, make pipes.

It would be even better for certain blends of herbs to be able to give you an affect -- some would allow you to perceive things better, give you a cough, etcetera.
