I'd like to see the implementation of game accounts as a multi-purpose solution. The exact means of implementation would be up to the dev team, but possible bonuses would include:
Easy tracking and punishment of alts.
Sharper control on multiplay, including prevention of accidents
One-time registration, profile, and setup (including options!).
Central location for GM notes for players
Potential spread of karma -, ignore, and other Meta/OOC actions to alts.
Less risk of forgetting your own alts.
An alias for any OOC communication facilitated by the MUD itself (chat, question, etc)
While switching to one would be a lot of code, character association could be done by registering/logging in to the account, and from there logging into the character via a recovery option.
