Beachcombing

Post by Orris »

Beachombing would be searching along sandy beach areas for valuables or interesting items that have washed ashore, things like nice seashells, shark teeth, and sea glass, but maybe occasionally something more interesting could be found. I don't think it would need a skill, it could just be something you could do. As such it should have a very low chance of actually finding anything, and the things found shouldn't have much if any selling value. There would need to also be something to prevent scripters, I would hate to see this beautiful new beach area trampled by scripters doing this all the time, so maybe have it spawn the sand crabs, goliath crabs, or coral lizards now and then to keep things risky, or maybe sometimes one of the sea-ghouls or something similar to them, like they're searching for their lost things too and think you're going to steal it, so they attack.

I would like to do it mostly for the RP, maybe to be able to string some of the shells into some basic jewelry and use the sea glass as adornments on my stuff.

I instantly thought of Jewelry and things for artisans, and it sounds like a cool idea!
[ESP-GRAY - Shadowy-Gray]: No no (player) , you were right, it's wonderful. I think I'll send in my application today. I can't wait to partake in the parties there. I just have one question, will I need to kidnap my own child, or will there be some there for those who are un able to.

Very, very cool idea. Maybe uses perception as a base?

Why don't you go to a beach and try the beachcomb command?

Note: Don't be greedy! The supply of findables is limited, and only replenishes with the tide.
Note 2: Beachcombing is usually fun and relaxing, but it may have some dangers.
Note 3: The shells you can find aren't sellable at markets, this is just for fun! Their uses may be expanded later (jewelry, etc.).
Note 4: Some finds are rarer than others.
Note 5: We're having fun adding more findables as we think of them - suggestions welcome!
The lore compels me!

Thank you! Can we use conch shells as horns?

Haven't tried it out yet, so you may already have these

seaweed (on failure for something cooler? edible and cookable, if you're into that sort of thing)

A live starfish (can be dried as a memento or cut into chunks and cooked in soup)

A sea urchin (ouch!)

I'm game for the sea urchin as long as it gets a check to make you sick every time you pick it up.

Edit: Oh! And make it hurlable! It could cause really low pierce damage, and make the person sick. If it gives the same effect as cinnabar, then this could be a really interesting way to battle.
