An Idea

Ok, so this is a pretty different Idea, but bear with me. So, magic has always been limited to magic only guilds righto? All other skills are pretty much available to everyone, (not abilities of course), which got me thinking about how to maybe fix that in some way. An Idea popped into my head earlier, but it depends on a few different things Im not sure of. First up: Elementals. I am fairly sure that Elementals exist in-game, though im not certain. If they don't..well this idea requires them, heh. What I was thinking would be to give the ability to be able to bind your soul to an elementals. This would be a permanent thing, definitely, and the elementals would be able to die, leaving you with no ability to bind to another(Or perhaps you still could? But have death of an elemental, as the actual loss of a piece of your soul, reduce ALL of your skills, permanently, by a set amount.). The benefits to binding your soul to an elemental would be being able to channel that elementals element, perhaps giving a few basic abilities related to the element as well(though that's just the icing on top, heh). The elemental would also be your constant companion, fighting with you, living with you, ect. Leaving it alone, or going too far away from it would result in its death. For magic using guilds, this would work just the same, accept adding to their own skills(I.E., a pyromancer who was capable of one channel of pyromancy, binding to a fire elemental, then being capable of two). This is a really big and different system, but would allow limited magic, with little to no of the control the true magic using guilds would be capable of, to anyone. I think this would really open up peoples options for those interested in magic, allowing them to try it out without being forced to join a guild their characters rp doesn't really synergize with just to learn magic. As for the proper details of the binding, where to find elementals, types of elementals there could be...I don't know! What do you all think? Would the system be feasible? How would this sort of thing really work?
