weight of crafted scale mail?

I tried out forging scale bracers this morning and noticed they consume the same number of pounds of metal as crafting plate vambraces. In stores the former weighs 5 pounds and the latter six.
Are crafted scale armors supposed to weigh the same as crafted plate armors? If not, could something happen when we examine the finished scale adjust down the weight appropriately? (Similar to back when there were one pound socks, we could examine socks and their weight would go down.)
