starving to death

Post by Sneaky »

So this is my third time starving to death while having plenty of food on me. I always forget to check my hunger, and I don't always see the hunger messages. I have a sound trigger to go off for the hunge messages, but I don't always hear them because often I am listening to music. I was wondering if a toggle could get put in to make it so if you were starving you wouldn't be able to move in the wilderness. I don't know if this happens to anybody else or not. But yeah. It just really irritates me. I had just eaten not even 5 minutes before and II starved to death while looking for keth heh. anyway. I hope this isn't seen as bitching or anything.

On each move for several moves, you get messaging saying "You're feeling ravenous!", then "You're nearly starving!" and finally "You're about to die from hunger!" so you've got plenty of warning that food is a problem. At the point where you start getting the "ravenous" messages, you can still move a very long way across the wilderness - easily far enough to get somewhere to buy, or at least forage, some food from just about anywhere considering the size of our current map.

A big issue with preventing wilderness movement while starving is that you could get stuck out in the wilderness with no food, and have no way to just give it up and die by moving again.

It might make me sound dismissive, but I think the solution here is to just pay better attention.

it's not dismissive. seriously if you depend on audio as part of your game, and you play music or something else so loud you miss the sounds, that's your fail not the game.
"I don't think we're ever going to find out what is going on with these canim, where are they coming from?!"

You say, "Um."
a Mistral Lake sentry arrives from the east, armor clanking.

Hunger is also shown in the prompt, isn't it?

That aside, given you're using a sound trigger and listening to music while playing, I'm can only assume your eyes are functioning good and well. Meaning you could take advantage of the old MUSHClient package, or the Mudlet one. Alternatively, use a better sound trigger.
You also notice the corpse of a canim scavenger (x169).

I'd like to point out, really quickly, that while the You're Ravenous messages ALWAYS show up, the You're Hungry messages do not.

Correct. The ravenous, nearly starving, and "about to die of hunger" warnings show on every wilderness move. Being merely "hungry" wasn't deemed urgent enough to make the cut for the every-move warning.

you'll see the warning, or hear it as the case may be quite a few times before you actually die. and in the case of the audio, it's seriously one of the loudest and most obnoxious sounds in the pack. so I still stand on the opinion, that if you miss it it's your own fault.
