Knocking on doors

When you knock on the door to a house, is it heard throughout the entire house?

Right now the only place a knock is heard is in the room where the door is located.

On a related idea, it seems the retort from discharging a firearm ought to be heard one wilderness room away, or several town rooms. Not sure if the coding for this would be almost identical to the "knock heard throughout the house" coding, and could thus be developed at the same time.
