The Depart Penalty and Pacifism

Post by Lun »

So someone brought up an interesting thing on CHAT today. The depart penalty has been tooled so that players can't perform risk-free actions in order to work it off. The most commonly accepted way to work off a depart penalty is via combat.

What are some options for players who choose extreme pacifism?

It's less an issue of risk free options as much as it skills that have flat gains with no diminishing returns and no regard to challenge rating (meaning the difficulty of the action being performed, not the risk). These skills are typically viewed by the team (or me, at least) as broken. They were never fully implemented, and you can raise them from 0 to cap doing the same thing over and over again, even though at some point what you're doing should be considered too basic and trivial to continue gaining skill from it.

Once we fix broken skills like music and herbalism, they'll be able to be used to work off the depart penalty again. For now... leatherworking and mining come to mind as non-combat skills that should work.
