What would you like to see?

Post by Vestyn »

I think we’re all in agreement here that we would absolutely love to see Clok return to the 20 players a day thing we all came to know and love. I’d like to see that, too, and I’m asking for your input.

What sorts of events have you guys loved to see? What sorts of suggestions for events would you like to see but haven’t? What sort of things would make your experience be less monotonous grinding and more excitement?

I can come up with some things and, without giving it away, I’ve got a real cool idea in the works that I think people will like, but that’s going to take me some outlining, research and preparation time to pull off. In the meantime, I’d like to start building a list of big and small things that I can have rolling around in my brain to run that will cause some entertainment for everyone involved.

If you have suggestions, please, post them here, or email the Clock email address, and I for certain will be taking a look at them. IT doesn’t have to be a well thought out event plan or a whole 1000-word plot point, but just something that you would find cool. Some examples may be:
I like parties. We should have more.
I like getting murdered by infested bison, kill me much more often!
I remember this one time that there was a murder in the middle of a ball and we were left wondering what happened. I’d like to see more intrigue.

If you have some more elaborate ideas, that would be great too. I can’t guarantee it will happen, but what I can guarantee is to read them all and build an idea of the interests of the playerbase and keep them in mind so that fun stuff for everyone involved can come to fruition.

I just like minor interactions. Honestly, the little stuff when I'm least expecting it is often the most fun for me.

I'm with Kiyaani in the fact that I'd like to see smaller stuff that doesn't necessarily get wrapped up quick, but is brought to a conclusion by the players then and there. Both combat, and non-combat related.

More aggressive mobs than normal, obviously banding together that need a few players in to disperse, collections of aggressive monsters in the wilderness at travel points, combat between groups in the wilderness such as Coalition caravan being attacked and wanting support, wandering spirits that want something from a player (not necessarily combat, could be simply burying their remains or finishing a delivery of a note or something)... uh, lost kids, pets, faction NPCs doing a patrol of their territory (Irwin might do a wall inspection or decide to visit the pass?)...

I really find it is the small stuff helps the game feel more alive. That, it doesn't matter where you are in Clok or what you're doing, you might stumble across a little thing because a GM has been about and gone, "Let's have a little fun." Doesn't need to be complex at all for people to enjoy it.

An event that ends in the destruction of every area except Shadgard, Corvus, and maybe Mistral... and then rolls us back, mechanics wise, to the good old days before everything got nerfed to the point of frustration. Or maybe a time travel event to roll the game back to a couple years ago?!? I say that only partially as a joke.

I'd love to see little things, little signs that the world is moving and populated, beyond that, i miss the skype chats, felt easier to connect with the comunity, both GM and player. And the skipe chats also sometimes brought back old faces because it reminded them why CLOK was special. Skype might not be great, but everyone has it.

Also, little victories, I know the bad guys need there wins too, but i can really only think of one or two things Maric has managed to do in the last few years, where he and I got to come away feeling like we actually made something better. It's a big reason I struggle to find the energy to get involved these days.

Bring back the traveling merchants with reasonably priced limited edition items. Stuff like the ring that one of my characters has that's a +1% buff to channeling, or the old executioner's sword he has. It doesn't have to be anything mechanically powerful, just needs to feel unique and special enough for people to want to buy it. Maybe use this as a means to distribute seemingly plain or junk items that will later have potential roles in events, but be sure to mix and match the potential event stuff with the more mundane items!

Additionally, if you'd like, I can come up with descriptions for items and items themselves for the gurus to create and put into the traveling merchants' stock if it'd ease the work load. I'll just have to be careful about what I buy if I know what it does OOC. Gotta keep to IC reasoning, you know.

Each and every one of these posts pretty much has something I've thought of suggesting. I love small stuff. Things that make the world alive.

One thing that I've always had a problem with since beginning my time in CLOK is the overwhelming number of singling out during an event. I know players want their characters to feel special, but I think GMs could possibly do a slightly better job of detecting when this is turning into a problem during an event that is meant for everyone to get involved. It can be very discouraging to some to be asked to leave or abandon an area when that shouldn't have to be the case.

Aside from that...I'm always game for some RP that gets people's blood pumping and creativity flowing. :)

Here's my two cents. I definitely agree with everyone about having all these small things that make Clok the place it is. I especially appreciate when events don't necessarily have to end with a ginormous battle. Though megabattles are extremely fun and satisfying at times, it's nice to have other things to do whether it be talking to a sad child, helping a guard light a brasier, rescuing a damsel in distress by talking like we did today, or escorting a merchant between towns, regardless of there being something to fight or not. I find that the npc's are often engaging and highly entertaining. It gives me as a player the sense that my character matters, is actually part of the world. Having said that, it would be cool to see more things like this where the abilities of a variety of players can be utilized. Here are some examples.
Lighting things with pyromancy for people.
Cooking something for a sad child, say cookies.
People using their first aid and herbalism to help an npc who just can't keep up with things or a wounded person on the road.
A guard needed to escort whomever.
A spy needed to chase down someone's cheating husband.
alright. I realize some of these may just be nuts, but my point is that there are so many things that we as players can do that don't include fighting, that can make things amusing and fun.

And in addition to Liani's post, giving the opportunity for different players to sort of 'lead' an event instead of being the same two or three people. I like her ideas.

Events I'd like to see further explored:

Canim Ruins. Based on Canim repop rates and their proximity to Mistral, they really should be overflowing in terms of population, ready to burst! Mistral has this massive army, I'm surprised there hasn't been any sick Mistral vs Canim action going on since the events of a few months ago.
Emleth: Mutants, man. What happened to all of this? Is it just sitting there, infested, not doing anything? Did we see the birth of a new Tarueka, or does it have more sinister effect?
Westbrook: Spiders, forever? What do the people thing? It happened, but it's just sitting there like a bomb waiting to explode.
Keth: So, ghosts. Ghost town, too. Is this the birth of a new Whispering Woods?

Mundane Events:
Refugees, beggars, people affected by current events. Make us feel like we need to do something in the world, some sort of encouragement like "Come on, look at how bad these people are off because of X reason..." Though I'm probably going to give you the New Yorker attitude and not offer my help in any way.

Traders hawking random items from time to time. They don't have to be super special, rare, or awesome. Seeing a random NPC pop on to sell a pair of boots that are custom made would be great. You'll definitely have to deal with people saying CAN YOU CUSTOM MAKE ME STUFF to those NPCs though, and say NO GTFO to them a few times.

Hopping onto the Network and expressing your disgust at the filthy scum gathering in Haiban's Founders Square. Make people feel the need to bathe.

Randomly possessing infested to say creepy lines.

Other randomness:
Caravan attacked: On the road, spawn a horse, a wagon with "some stuff in it", spawn a NPC to possess and walk towards the closest player. If they don't stop, keep going and then start hollering about bandits attacking them, then go quiet. If people fight it off, rewards! If not, wow, you people suck. Leave a destroyed wagon on the road there so everyone knows that everyone failed.

After making a joke about wanting to see bandits reacting to (ie. mugging) people who announce their exact position out in the wild through the esp network, it suddenly got me thinking about some other things that I think would be neat to see happening in CLOK. And, honestly, that's one of them. I would love to see the network get more use by NPCs, especially villainous NPCs. Why don't a group of bandits taunt people through the esp network while running a raid on a hamlet or lurking on the side of the road, jumping unsuspecting travelers? I'm sure said "villains" have access to said pendants. Why wouldn't they? Even if they were barred from entering the towns and purchasing their own, they could have gotten them off of a traveling merchant, taken them from a corpse, stolen them from someone, etc.

I'd also love seeing mundane pure RP things happen from time-to-time. Like maybe a mummer NPC telling a story at one of our many taverns, or coming across some random NPC out in the wild that's lost or injured, or maybe... I DUNNO. A meteor shower. Let us all ponder if there is some deeper meaning sent by the gods or if we're just getting to see some pretty rocks fall. (I just pulled that last one out of nowhere lol. But it'd be cool!)

Good ideas. I just wanted to drop a line to this post: viewtopic.php?f=26&t=3917 and say that NPCs have used pendants before and have taunted, hunted, ambushed PCs as well. The thing about the pendants is according to the lore not everyone can use them and that's supposed to be the explanation for why there isn't *more* of that going on all the time. So it's not so much a matter of not accessing pendants, as not necessarily being able to access the network. Either way, seeing more activity from NPCs in general would be fantastic even if it's just little interactions.

The little events are always the highlight of my day. I also like the idea above re: having more people effected by ic actions that we now have to deal with. More bandits now that it's warmer. More refugees from Westbrook.

I understand. I can only speak as to what I have observed in my time here on CLOK and what I think it would be neat to see more of :)

Some eventual finish to the Wildhaven clawed tree. Or at least, I assume that was never finished up. Hard to tell with Clok sometimes.
