Tanning solution and dye crafting

Will we ever be able to produce the tanning solution and dyes ourselves instead of having to buy them?
Yes, it would be nice if by grinding certain herbs then stirring that into some kind of oil in a bottle we could make some dye. For example, bloodwort would give 'red' dye.
For the tanning solution, I believe a horse would be required.
