Skinnning/Leather Crafting

Post by Landion »

This thread is where I'll announce my progress on the leather creation process as I go along.

Skinning - Released
- SKIN CREATURE
Clean - Released
- CLEAN {target}
Tannning - Released
- Requires that you treat the pelt with tanning solution which can be purchased at any tannery. Use 'POUR'
- Place the treated pelt on a tanning frame.
- TAN the leather. This takes a bit of time.

Skinning and Cleaning are based on your skinnning skill.
Tanning is based on the newly released Leatherworking skill.

The higher your skill, the better quality of leather you can create, and thus increasing your profit.

Leather Dyes - Coded, Unreleased.

Leather Crafting - Rough system released for testing.

Bump.

Tannning is now released.

Get a bottle of tanning solution from a tannery and get to work! This relies on a new skill: Leatherworking!

I fixed the bug where you could sell leather for negative riln, thus causing you to pay the buyer to take it off your hands. (As hilarious as that was, it wasn't intended.)

Thanks for the great fix Landion!

By the way this just happened:
You sell your poor rigid leather to a buyer for -3 riln.

Fixored some more stuff. Always happens when I rush a system.

I forgot to update here. I've updated tanning to have a 'natural' option which creates a tanned fur, instead of soft or rigid leather. Fur armor will be the same as leather armor in leathercrafting, but will provide the options for different and more rugged looks.

Leathcrafting is roughly ... 60-80% complete. It's in very rough draft shape and needs a lot of polishing/fixing/testing still.

I may put off adding the extra customization half of it and take a break from coding this system once I get the basics working. As it sits now, you'll be able to customize by using: fur type, soft or rigid leather, and leather color. I would like it eventually to be more detailed that that.

I made my first below-average leather belt today!

Just needs more testing now, but its getting closer. I now need to think like Jaster and try to find ways to break stuff.

I'm releasing test leathercrafting worktables live into the game in Shadgard and Corvus. This is because I know you will find the bugs faster than me, and it will give people the chance to start having fun with it.

DISCLAIMER:
- The system is still rough, and messaging needs tweaking.
- Your items may not come out exactly right.
- Please BUG any issues you come across.
- This system will be adjusted extensively as time goes on. (It is rather skeletal right now.)

Instructions:

SKIN a creature

CLEAN the skin

POUR tanning solution on the skin
- Syntax:Pour bottle on {target}
- Must have both items in your hands.

Put the skin on a tanning frame
TAN the skin - creating leather
- Choose from soft, rigid, or natural

Dye the leather (optional)
- Syntax: Pour dye on {target}
- Must have both items in your hand.

Put the leather on the worktable
TRACE a pattern onto the leather
- Syntax: TRACE {category} {type}
-Some patterns will require more leather.

LCRAFT {type}
- Repeat this until the item is completed.

Fixed the bugs reported last night.

Things seem to be running a little smoother now. Feel free to suggest new dyes, nouns, etc regarding the system.

I've updated leathcrafting to allow you to change the descriptor once the item has been completed.

In order to do this, place the item on the worktable.
Syntax: LCRAFT {target} {category} {choice}

Examples:
Instead of 'poor' you can choose from a list of similar descriptors.
Instead of 'excellent' you can choose from a list of 'good' choices.

This process will be adjusted as testing continues.

Can you make containers from leatherworking open and closable please? You never know when Jaster is around.

Why doesn't this have its own topic? Also... Where do I learn from? I am tired of botching all my skinning rolls :-(

Pour dye on pelt
This pelt has already been treated with tanning solution.

You are holding a treated pelt in your right hand and a bottle of white dye in your left hand.
When are we to add the dye?

When it is leather, you have to tan it first on the frame. :)

Oh yeah. I'll see if I can't get that to work autmatically like other stuff when I get a few minutes.
