Can this be performed with ranged weapons?

No, it only can work with melee weapons... I don't see how spinning in a circle and shooting randomly would be useful in combat at all. Hehe.

I've made several changes to this maneuver already.

1- It is now available to both Dwaedn Wyr and Mercenaries.
2- If you have the Multi-Opponent skill, you can now use a Basic Spin attack.
3- There are now 3 additional ranks of Spin Attack Mastery

With Multi-Opponent Combat you can attack 2 creatures with Spin Attack.

At rank 1 of Mastery you can attack up to 3 creatures with Spin Attack, or Spin {TARGET} for 2 focused strikes on a single target.
At rank 2 of Mastery you can attack up to 4 creatures with Spin Attack, or 3 focused strikes on a single target.
At rank 3 of Mastery you can attack up to 5 creatures with Spin Attack, or 4 focused strikes on a single target.

It works well in the movies though!

Spin Attack not automatically targeting

Post by Makkah »

It seems that spin attack will not automatically work on hidden (although seen) opponents. The following log is from a hunt of an infested bowman I just had. I saw the bowman hide, typed spin, and it would not fire off. You'll note that directly after, I typed "kill" and it did automatically attack the bowman.

spin bowm
Wait 5 seconds.

Queuing following command: spin bowm
(You may clear your command queue at any time)

EWEng>
An infested bowman no longer appears stunned.

An infested bowman stands up.

You notice an infested bowman quietly slip into a hiding spot.

Spin Attack whom?

spin
An infested bowman removes an arrow from his back quiver and nocks it to his ash bow.
An infested bowman fires an arrow at you! (R:2538 vs D:*)
6 pierce damage -- to the abdomen, greatly deflected by an engraved iron cuirass.

There aren't any hostile foes here close enough to you to spin attack!

EWEng>
kill

Ouch! It hurts to move with these projectiles lodged in your body! Maybe you should remove them.
(energy -6)

An infested bowman's hiding spot is revealed by your action!
You slash with a masterfully-forged iron voulge etched along the blade with tribal runes at an infested bowman! (M:* vs D:2496)
47 hack damage - to the back, barely deflected by a lamellar cuirass.
(energy -6)
Roundtime: 5 seconds.

I think it's because the bowman moved to ranged position. Notice how you got that Ouch! message and "Close enough to spin attack".

The ouch should just be from trying to attack.

However, the bowman did fire at you, which means it was in a ranged position. That's likely why it didn't work, since everything seems in order.

No, I do not believe this is what is going on. If they're out of range, there will be a message stating so. Just did some more research (big log coming):

[Logging Camp] (OutFrFlDt)
From the condition of the road it would not appear that enormous tree stumps had to have been uprooted and removed for its construction. The way is level and the gravel has been compacted and shored with boulders for support.
There is a cloud of fog here. The area is mostly quiet.
You also notice an arrow.
You recall that an arrow has been hidden here, which you may recover.
Also here: a scarred infested bowman (hiding, lightly-armored, gore-spattered, bloody).
Obvious paths: north, east.

I missed the 'spin attack whom' in your first log, so sorry about that.

I did find the error, though!
