I'm guessing they might shy away from people, so you probably have to be hidden in order to catch them.

That happens with most of the Huntable animals too. It can be tough to try to catch them without being hidden, even with magic at times. Typically, NPCs have the advantage of being AI, so they can respond faster, and don't suffer from the latency a PC does.

Actually, even while hidden they move excessively fast.

Heh, yeah it's pretty ridiculous. I had to basicly spam the attack command every few seconds in order to actually hit one.

They're working as intended. Like a lot of timid natural critters, they prefer flight over fight, and don't like hanging around when humans are present. This one by me now is staying put up to about 30 seconds before moving off, when it doesn't detect me.

What about the critters that move immediately after being spawned using the HUNT command, such as deer, gophers, and many others? Is that intended? Because I don't see why they would instantly move since you haven't revealed yourself to them.

Not trying to be rude, I'm just curious.

P.S. Beavers are not intended as hunting/combat fodder. If you want to train up those novice combat skills more efficiently, go somewhere like Tarueka, Dusklamp, or the abandoned caravan.

While hidden.

a large brown beaver heads northwest. [1:36:09]

a large brown beaver arrives from the northwest.

a large brown beaver heads northeast.

a large brown beaver arrives from the northeast.

a large brown beaver heads south. [1:36:31]

Or do critters get a spot check when entering a room?

In my experience, they are excessively fast yes even when hidden. Wonder what Rias did differently?

Rias did you check Corvus trail or just create a beaver in a room? I'm wondering if it may be the nether plants causing the mad dash. I haven't seen one linger more than 2 seconds.

Those nether plants are pretty creepy. Normal people and animals would probably be skeeved out by them.

Might be they recognize the plants as PCs, so run open getting noticed by the plants.

I'm on the trail in their natural habitat: two beavers, stygian voidgrass, and a tendril-bush. Myself as well as a testing non-GM PC, neither invisible, both hiding. One of the beavers took off after a while, the other is still chilling here. There he goes, just left too, and another arrived ... sticking around 20+ seconds.

I'm not sure what the difference is compared to what others are doing. Post if you notice conditions in which beavers seem to be less or more spastic.

It's not all the time which is weird. One spotted me, left, came back and instantly left without having spotted me again. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

I had a beaver spot me on login. Now there is one that hangs around and another that zips through. Like after it sees you once, even if you hide it knows you're there.
