I wouldn't want this to be a completely separate skill, but it would be nice to somehow gather tree resin and apply it to medium branches to make our own torches.

I think adding this to carving would be reasonable. I'll toss a note Rithiel's way.

Take a chop into a pine trunk, let the sap drip into a bucket, boil the contents of the bucket to make the resin? Then dip the branch into the bucket. Don't think it would require any carving other than removing the bark from a branch.
I'm not a survivalist though, I might have the process down wrong.

The wood would have to be slow burning though. So it shouldn't be just any wood only slow burning ones and if you use the wrong type...

Realistically for a torch, you just need a green branch split down the middle, and something that's flammable to stuff down the split bit.

I think the point of the resin is to serve as a long-burning fuel source, hence you don't have to switch to a new torch every couple minutes and can carry fewer bulky torches with you.

On the same track, is there any way to find firestones naturally? Are they some kind of unique stone to clok or is it just another name for flint and steel?

I thought they were stones covered in some sort of alchemical substance.

I had never thought a whole lot about it, but I like Reynard's explanation. Alchemy/foraging could be used in the creation of one's own firestones. Grind and combine the correct ingredients, pick up some rocks, coat the rocks in the substance, and boom - firestones.

I'd always assumed it was CLOK slang for flint and steel. xD

I just thought they were cool collectibles.
