Hillfolk - Becoming a Briarwood

I just entered the world as a Hillfolk named Aimee.
I would very much like to become a part of the Briarwood family, but I am not sure how to go about it in character, since I don't know anyone from that family.
It wouldn't make sense for me to search for them IC, since they would obviously be my family members.
So two questions.
Any general tips on roleplaying an interesting and true-to-race Hillfolk girl?
Second, how do I go about joining a family?
