Viali dueling

Post by Hakkon »

I may or may not definitely be working on a character concept so I felt the need to ask: Is competitive sword-fighting (Specifically fencing) a thing in Viali culture?
Both in terms of honor duels as well as friendly (or professional) competitions to first blood/first strike A la....most of early Europe?

Interesting question. Did you ever get an answer to this via other means?

You broke the lore hermit! Nooo!

I shall attempt to answer this myself. Jirato may smite me down, but from discussions about Viali and mocking them (I do adore Viali really) I feel fairly confident in saying yes, in certain circles the Viali did practice the fine art of fencing as a sport and duels to reclaim honor following an insult. Rougher circles will likely take the duels a bit further, possibly cheating and using a sharpened blade.

I can't help but think of this scene from Romeo and Juliet though:
Abraham: Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?
Sampson: I do bite my thumb, sir.
Abraham: Do you bite your thumb at us, sir?
Sampson (to Gregory): Is the law of our side if I say ay?
Gregory: No.
Sampson: No, sir, I do not bite my thumb at you sir; but I bite my thumb, sir.
Gregory: Do you quarrel, sir?
Abraham: Quarrel, sir? No, sir.
Sampson: If you do, sir, I am for you: I serve as good a man as you.
Abraham: No better.
Sampson: Well, sir.
Gregory: (to Sampson) Say 'better'; here comes one of my master's kinsmen.
Sampson: Yes, better, sir.
Abraham: You lie.
Sampson: Draw, if you be men! Gregory, remember thy swashing blow.
(They fight)

Dark powers surround Noctere and he brings forth his hands to summon... to summon... TO SUMMON!...
a handful of popcorn which appear on the ground with a slight POOF sound. Then Noctere leaves.
