Opinions, comments, impressions

Post by Jaren »

A few of my opinions as to the current state of the Sorc abilities.
(I made another longer post about this but in my haste I clicked "preview topic", was logged out and lost all my work. Yeah I know ctrl-a then ctrl-c..hey I was tired)

#0 Consume Talisman
As of now I rarely EVER use this spell. The amount of souls needed to bring my fatigue up even one notch is far too great.

#1 Soul Harvest
Talked about previously in another post.

#2 Freezing aura
Don't use this very much because I am not a melee sorc. But the proc does work when I attack others however I "still" have yet to see it work when baddies try to attack me. (I know this was looked at earlier)

#3 Ice barbs
Another melee sorc skill. As of right now the effect does add the words "ice-barbs" to the front of my weapon but the spell seems rather buggy at the moment. (the appropriate /bug reports have been made)

#4 Shadow Martyr
I briefly mentioned this in another post. Right now this spell feels like more of a novelty spell to be used on rare occasions rather than an armor replacement spell. It normally takes me about 30-40 minutes to gather 7-10 souls and this spell tends to last only about 1-3 fights depending on the difficulty of the baddies.

#5 Shadow Familiar
So far this is my FAVORITE spell. The familiar does help a little to add an extra target to the fight and he does manage to sometimes guard some of my damage. He also helps a to do a "tiny bit" of damage from time to time. The only problem with him (as previously mentioned) is that he tends to tell other players where I am hiding. So I can't keep him out all the time or I get squished. (Somewhat useful in pvm not so much in pvp)

Harvest gains have increased, as has the energy-per-blood ration of the CONSUME command. Let me know if that helps make this useful.

Still working on it. As noted above, it now harvests an increased amount of blood from targets.

Now that it requires active channeling, this should have a baseline 50% chance to work on melee attacks (outgoing and incoming), increased slightly as cryomancy skill increases. It sounds like this is not the case, so I'll have to dig deeper into the problem.

This was an older ability, and I plan on expanding it to work to temporarily increase damage absorption from the lighter armors. Thanks for the bug reports, I'll check them out.

Probably more to do with the difficulty of harvesting than the spell itself. We'll see how it works when harvesting is brought more in line. However, keep in mind that it's not intended to essentially be the equivalent of wearing heavy armor without the channeling penalty. It's intentionally made to require extra effort and be a "I use it when things get hairy" situational spell. I didn't create the heavy armor channel penalties just so I could make spells to easily circumvent said penalties and void them. You guys (Sorcerers) and Elemancers are meant to be the "powerful but squishy" characters. I just haven't coded up any of the more uber spells yet.

Yeah, I still need to make them sneaky, but that will take some doing, so unfortunately it may be a while.

Spell idea: Enthrall.Enthrall a player/NPC and give them one command.Requires sorcerery 100 and channeling 100.

Freezing Aura procs a lot but.. I don't have the slightest clue as to what it is supposed to be doing.

Ice Barbs is one of my favorite Sorcerer spells right now. It adds up to 15 points for my attacks and changing my crushing damage to hacking and slashing.

I am going to try Shadow Martyr out next, I am working at the Infested Roads training my skills but I can easily farm a few dozen souls(Melee Sorc FTW!) from the carriers. Is there a way to poke the talisman to see how many souls are in it to monitor how many disappear from using this skill?

Freezing Aura does cold damage, but doesn't hit any specific hit location, and is thereby simply reducing the victim's energy and not causing any wounds. I've gone back and forth on whether it should show the actual numbers, or whether that would cause too much text clutter.

As far as checking a blood talisman, see the recent announcement. Tanks for bringing it up, it had accidentally fallen by the wayside.

I'm glad you're going for a melee sorcerer build. They're meant to be playable either way, or as a hybrid. Just depends on how much you care to focus, and whether you want to slow your progression by focusing in many areas or just one.
