Harvesting

Post by Xzean »

Any chance of us getting some sorcery skill when harvesting? Perhaps small enough to not be cheesed?

There's no skill or challenge rating involved with the actual harvesting, so no. It's been made apparent in a disturbingl large number of cases that some player characters will use any effortless method of gain over one that requires effort, even if the effortless method takes much longer due to minimal gains. If we implemented this, I imagine the graveyard area with rats and ravens would become an even more popular place for Rooks, not just for shreds but for skillgains as well.

There isn't a skill challenge to harvest? Can this maybe get changed? It doesn't make much sense for me to fail as much as I do harvesting rats.

I'd like to see the chance of failure drop based on the difficulty of the mob versus your Sorcery skill level. Because failing to steal several Shadgard Graveyard vermin NPCs' souls in a row is kind of embarrassing for someone with 250+ Sorcery.

I'm not sure if it would be wise to decrease the likelihood of failing the harvest check, purely for the reason that it would give people more incentive to stand around areas that offer zero risk in order to harvest soul shreds.

Make the amount of shards vary based on the difficulty of the check, then.

You'd still have the problem of going into a low difficulty area and getting free shards. Maybe a solution could be getting shards only from challenging opponents and increase the chance to get one.

That would worsen the issue, Kiyaani, since then no newbie would have access to shreds, and thus would miss out on the task specific to them.

They would have access. Challenge is based on skill level. So if you're new, fighting ravens or squirrels in the graveyard is a challenge and would give shreds. If you're experienced you would have to fight something more your 'level' to gain shreds.

Combat capability does not a potent soul shred make, nor does skill in sorcery grant an advantage to wresting the will of a soul shred. That said, I'm reworking the formula a little, though the results may not be very obvious to players.

Another change soon to go in that will involve fractional shreds will likely be more noticeable.

Incidentally, the nethrim ravens and rats no longer provide shreds. It never really made sense.

Lastly: What's more embarrassing? Failing to get a shred from a rat, or being a skilled sorcerer stooping to siphoning pitiful rat souls? Bwahaha.

wait, why does nethrim ravens and rats giving shreds not make sense? are they undead, cause I always thought they were tainted.

Also, what about different types of soul shreds? randomized ones that give bonuses to certain skills.

They're called "a rotting black raven" and "a decaying black rat", take that as you will.

The horribly disfigured squirrels aren't quite as obvious, but if you look at one you'll see:
Large black eyes dart wildly back and forth scanning the area. Lumps of squalid flesh have peeled away from the body exposing the rotting bone beneath.

This brings up the interesting question. When a zombie comes back to life, does it still have it's soul? (Probably not, that's why he's eating people!!)

no seriously, I assume that nether doesn't randomly ressurect crap or else I wouldn't need some fancy ability to do it, something has to be ressurecting those little demons.

Just because a Sorcerer needs a special ability to reanimate things doesn't mean Nether in general (a pseudosentient 'thing') does. It could very easily be something that Nether is capable of doing on it's own. You should try to set out and research it in game with your character.

It's a graveyard full of rook sorcerers, crazed necromancers, and creepy acolytes. Take your pick!

Or maybe nether does randomly resurrect crap, look at all the undead around without any particular sorcerers known to be in the area. Doesn't mean you don't have to learn how to make it happen for your ability. Heck, I have to spend abilities to learn how to stomp on peoples feet!

new sorcerer ability "Random" let nethrim do what it do and see what letting it do what it do does, who knows? what it do might even be doing something that doesn't matter or does matter quite alot.

Nether does not randomly animate anything.

It was one of us, I promise. Gotta practice on somethin'.

that brings up a question. How long does a reanmation last without a sorcerer keeping everything from falling apart?

Is there any possibility that harvesting could give .25 guild points? Or if we could get a review on alternative way next to tasks that makes Rooks more aligned with other casting guilds?

Thank you.

Sorcerers get guild points for casting at things that provide a challenge, just like elemancers do.
