For the bodyguards/mercenaries idea, I just need to figure out what to do with them (code-wise) when the character logs out. With the sorcerer familiar, you can just summon a new one when you log back in, and that made me say "I'll just have summons go poof when the character logs out." Considering merchants have to pay for the bodyguards, however, they will of course have to be preserved during logout so they can return as the character logs back in.

Maybe dismiss them and you get a return based on how much time remaining they had?

That's a decent idea. Be able to 'summon' them when you want, having paid for their hours previously at the guild. Basically having them in waiting.

This would be nice for when an invasion hits suddenly.

"Collins lets out a loud shout, calling out an order for his guards!"
...a moment or two later.
"A burly mercenary arrives and moves to guard Collins."

Logging out would auto-dismiss them from duties to go take a lunch break. Leaving them with whatever time left that has been paid for.

Please make it so that my aero volley DOESN'T auto target the guards.

Silly tree hugger, don't you know only Ele-s are supposed to rock?

By the way. Both these ideas have been polished and implemented in one form or another.

Just in case that announcement was missed.

You also see a brown horse (pulling a wagon, guarded by a hiresword), a wagon, (ridden by Collins, pulled by a horse) a hiresword (guarding a horse).

Someone go kick Rias.

Attendants are now available who will, for a price, carry a lantern for members of the Coalition. Though, don't expect them to be nearly as skilled or courageous as any of the hireswords.

These men are for hire at the mercenary barracks.

Enjoy.

I love the attendants, they look rather hung over and are very useful for mining. I hated carrying my own lantern.

Nothing like hireing out the annoying and boring work!
