Templars and "Tanking"

Post by Troy »

Today I got to 'tank' for lack of a better word, a drakolin for Evelyn and Lae.

It was probably the closest thing to a WoW boss battle I've ever had in a text game. I tanking the sucker as it pummeled me to the ground over and over, Evelyn smashing it as hard as she could, and Lae working to heal me as best she could.

I really like Minor Beacon and that it allows you to do this so effectively.

I was thinking of a few other abilities that might enhance this roll of a defensive tank, able to take a lot of damage, and defend well against multiple opponents. So, I was thinking of a few things that might help enhance this roll.

Tactics Defend

Just as archers have access to sniper tactic, melee users could have a defensive tactic, lowering their offensive capabilities by 50%, but increasing parry, block and dodge by 25%-30% each.

This wouldn't have to be limited to just Templars.

Shield Wall

Passive: Activated by Tactics Block.

Templars are unmatched in their skill with large shields, effectively able to deflect multiple blows in succession without penalty.

When in Tactics Block, the Templar takes no defensive knock down of his Block rating, for up to 4-5 opponents. If the opponent number exceeds this, knockdown begins to occur as normal. The Templar also gains a 20% boost to his Block Rating while using this tactic.

Stone Skin

Cast Spell - With a cool down.

As monks are able to harden their fists for a blow, Templars have harnessed a similar ability, hardening their bodies against incoming damage by channeling thaumaturgy across the surface of the body, and at times causing light wounds to close.

While active this ability lessens incoming damage by 25% (Damage that gets past the armor, logically). This ability lasts 1 minute, with a 10 minute cooldown period. While active, there is a passive chance to have wounds heal slightly. (Perhaps a 5-10% chance every few seconds.)

Some spiffy ideas, keep an eye out for their implementation.
The lore compels me!
