I've made a few new characters recently, and I've encountered what seems to be a bug reguarding tasks.
On all of my new characters the tasks I'm getting are the types of tasks that maybe a more higher skilled type character would be able to handle.
I have just abandoned one that told me to go take out a river dweller. I bairly have 15 dodge as I just started playing this character within the past 2 or 3 hours, so you can see how this alarmed me. On my new mercenary it asked me to take out 17 infested in the town of tarrueka... that was after about an hour of playing. Maybe something isn't broken, but it is still worth looking into. Much appreciated.
Task difficulty not scaling propperly
Re: Task difficulty not scaling propperly
This is probably a bug, but it's worth mentioning that you should always keep your dodge on par with your weapon skills, it will help you a LOT when doing tasks. Since the calculation for the task difficulty is also based on your weapon skill, if it's a lot higher than your dodge, you are going to have issues.

[FROM Rias (OOC)]: Jaster can now pick the lock on your bathroom door. I don't want any more details on that bug report.
You ask, "Are we there yet?"
Bryce angrily says, "I will turn this horse RIGHT AROUND."
Speaking to you, Jaster exclaims, "Compassion, Sister Lae!"

Re: Task difficulty not scaling propperly
Infested river dwellers attack at 118 and defend at 128 - they're more or less newbie fodder (and match up to your skills well, it looks like). What makes them more dangerous is probably that they have spears instead of the weak punches, but not every task is going to be a cakewalk just because you're new. If you're getting hit too often, try using tactics dodge (or block, if you use a shield) to offset that, though of course your offense will suffer a bit for it.
If it's a "particularly dangerous creature" task, then it's intended that their skills are significantly higher than yours. The task is designed to make a single creature that's more powerful than your character to present a challenge, rather than a more even match. You may occasionally need to retreat and rest/heal up before going back to finish the job. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to have a task say "go and take out a single creature that we already know is an even match for you" when we've got culling tasks that do the same, but with multiple creatures instead of just one.
General tip: Keep your offense and defense skills as close as possible. Adjustments are made on your highest combat skill, so if you have 500 swords and 0 dodge, you're going to be sent out to deal with stuff appropriate to around the 500 skill level range. Defense is important to train up.

The lore compels me!
