Storage

Post by Alexander »

I wonder if alternate storage options might be considered. I often find myself wanting to change out of my armor and into my civilian garb. However, my armor is so large and heavy that it will not all fit into a backpack, ignoring for the moment that I would prefer not to walk everywhere with a backpack full of plate armor and weapons. I would store it in the town vault, but considering the breastplate alone costs 70 riln to store, this would not be practical considering the frequency with which I would prefer to change.

Perhaps maintaining a bank account of a certain minimum threshold might provide at least some small storage space without charge. Guilds might also have various storage options. I know that purchasing one's own home is the ultimate storage solution, and I would not want to trivialize that benefit of home-ownership, so these storage options would therefore be quite limited. Perhaps limit them to a certain number of items.

My ultimate point is this: I find it silly that simply being able to have a ready change of clothing requires a disproportionately large riln investment every time I wish to change clothes.

I agree and have discussed options with Rias. I'll see about implementing them sooner, since somebody asking for something is always good motivation.

What will probably be implemented are alternatives to housing, rather than strict storage options, although I've thought about making storage sheds that are rentable once professions require having a lot of materials on hand. So for example, rather than owning your own home, characters for whom that doesn't really make sense can rent a room in a boarding house, or have a room in their guild. These are preliminaries, so it may change, but that's the direction I've been thinking.

Rithiel agrees, so you have that against you.

But seriously, we'll work on something. Elemancers have their dormitories. Templar and Monks will probably get something like a cell, with a cot and a chest with enough space to stash armor and weapons that wouldn't be used during civilian events. Like the dorms, you wouldn't be able to leave stuff on the ground.

What about actually paying for rooms at the inn, and then that room is like a temporary home for you and stuff on the ground doesn't disappear. You could pay in advance for several days or maybe even a few weeks, I don't know why an innkeeper would refuse guaranteed room payments for a long amount of time. And if your time runs out and you leave things in there, they could lock them up somewhere and make you pay a fine to get them back.

We've got plans for basically this. If you leave your stuff there past the paid time, they'd throw all your stuff in the town bank vault and deduct the charges (plus an inconvenience fee) from your bank account.
