Disabling an opponent

Post by Alexander »

I have observed various disabling effects used in combat, and most appear to be guild abilities. Whether it is a Templar-only ability or a general ability available to all matters little to me, but it would be well to have a way to disable opponents without beating them into unconsciousness. I have no qualms with battling and slaying nethrim or the infested, and to a lesser extent hostile beasts, but I would prefer to have a way to disable and subdue other opponents as an alternative to maiming or killing them. Although I have yet to feel inclined to engage another player character in combat , should such a thing occur I would prefer to be able to resolve a combat conflict in a way other than killing or severely wounding my opponent.

For instance, should I be engaged by a ruffian on the streets of Shadgard, I would much prefer to disarm or knock him down, rather than hack bloody gashes in his flesh with my longsword. A way to keep a foe disabled would also be well, so that they do not simply recover and renew their attack.

Poor Templar. They should have a disabler, I think they'd be the most likely ones to want to disable someone rather than kill them, anyway.
ask jes for date
The horse thief Jessie doesn't seem too interested in talking about that.

I can picture a templar giving someone a THWAP! over the head with their gauntlets! Mmhrm!

Or maybe the hilt of your weapon to the back of the head. Ouch.

I don't necessarily see that doing much against nethrim though...

Templar are also charged with keeping the people safe, not just combating the nethrim (guild points for guarding others!). I imagine they'd develop ways of dealing with troublemakers and the scum of society in a way that allows them to escort the badguys to jail in one piece, rather than sending them straight to the graveyard (to rise as nethrim!). Chopping their fellow man to pieces should be a last resort, I agree.

I thought I would bring attention to this matter again, as I recently discovered a burglar in my home. I was in luck having my shield with me and was able to perform a shield charge when he attempted to flee, but I believe some generalized methods of subdual as an alternative to lethal means should be available to all characters, not just those of specific guilds.
