This will be a rather short theory. Let's say someone did find the barrier and some how made their way inside the star ship, there were probably lots of specimens on board for research, alien, terrestrial, who knows what else that were damaged or released due to the crash. Now, let's say this individual comes into contact with an alien pathogen, they become sick, and quickly make their way to a healer, passing along the disease. Pretty soon, you have a plague on your hands, one without any cure. My friends, you have the Great Plague that struck Arad and began in Aetgard.
