Re: Looking for information on CLOK's codebase and design
Anyway, I'm rambling. I don't really have a lot of sources for you to compare/contrast with. Sorry! As I said, I only ever played one other MUD seriously (Gemstone), and most of CLOK comes from the shadowy recesses of my brain. This was also my first foray into coding, so I didn't really have anyth...

Looking for information on CLOK's codebase and design
Continuing from chat: I'm writing a paper on the history of MUDs and the evolution of MUD design, and after having played here for a while I think it'd be good to include CLOK in the design discussion. As such, I'm interested in learning more about the history of CLOK, with a specific focus on anyth...

Armor Padding
Padding your armor (wrapping strips of cloth around the bits that clank or jingle) is a time-honored tradition when it comes to making yourself somewhat sneakier while still being protected. It was used in medieval times for stealth raids and attacks where you didn't necessarily want to be unarmored...

Armor check penalty for First Aid
It would seem to me that the more armor you're wearing, the harder of a time you're going to have applying a bandage to a wound that's underneath the armor. Someone skilled enough in wearing their armor would know how to shift it aside just enough to reach the wound, but someone who's not practiced ...

Re: Skill Decay
For whatever solution ends up being implemented, it's important to remember that there's nothing more discouraging for a newbie than to hear that there are old characters on the game who have achieved heights of power that are codedly no longer possible to get. I left my last MUD when the admins set...

Updating "bandage me" to target worst wounds first
When using "bandage me", it targets the wound at the top of the list, regardless of the amount of damage it's taken and whether or not it's a threat. My character is perfectly content to patch up her scraped head while her severely-wounded torso gushes blood all over the ground. Could &quo...

Shields should protect your back when worn
I've noticed that the moment you sling your shield over your shoulder, it transmutes itself into an immaterial mist that weighs as much as a shield but does nothing to protect you. It would make more sense if wearing a shield on your back added protection to your back-- either by adding damage resis...

Re: Building Homes
IMO, the wilderness is going to seem a lot less wild if we have homes strewn about it everywhere. I'd instead suggest having plots of land available in towns / hamlets that could be built on. It'd accomplish the same goals of offloading the creative work from builders to the players (although someon...

Modification to the terminating message for windmill permits
I've noticed that when the windmill permit expires, the ominous message "You realize that your hour is up." prints to your screen. This is a bit confusing, especially if you logged off during the permit period and were away for a length of time. Perhaps it could be modified to reference th...
