This stuff can now be dyed! Unless they're made of some material that can't hold dyes, that is, but I can't think of why any of these types of items would be. Hrm, what messaging are you seeing when you try? They shouldn't be exclusive to each other, and I was just able to take Melee Combat Proficiency and then Ranged Combat Proficiency from the trainers in the Shadgard barracks.
